West Bengal celebrated ‘Poila Boishakh‘, the Bengali New Year 1420, with streams of people visiting the Kali temple at Kalighat and Dakshineswar on Monday.

The days also marked the beginning of the new financial year with shopkeepers opening the new ‘haal khata‘, the new book of accounts.

Several schools and cultural organizations held colourful programmes with girls and boys dressed in traditional saris and dhoti kurta.

Restaurants laid out traditional cuisine from daab chingri, mutton dak bunglow to illish paturi and bhetki paturi to satisfy the taste buds of Bengalis.
