On July 1,every year, Charted Accountants Day (CA Day) is celebrated to commemorate the finding of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) by the parliament of India.
Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi spoke about this day on his Mann Ki Baat programme on Sunday. He said, "Friends, along with Doctors Day, Chartered Accountants Day is also celebrated on the 1st of July. A few years ago, I had asked for global level Indian audit firms as a gift from Chartered Accountants of the country. Today I want to remind them of that. Chartered Accountants can play a very worthy and positive role in bringing transparency to the economy. I extend my best wishes to all Chartered Accountants and their family members."
Minister of Commerce & Industry, Piyush Goyal took to Twitter to wish all the CAs across India.
Goyal wrote, "Thanks to PM @NarendraModi ji for wishing our Chartered Accountant fraternity for the upcoming CA Day on July 1st. He also again urge them to build Global level Indian Audit Firms. I am sure CAs of our country will live up to this mission."
However, this hasn't gone well with students who are set to appear for CA exams from July 5 to 20, 2021.
Students have said that the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) should defer the exams till all of them get vaccinated against Covid-19 as the vaccination drive for those above 18 years of age has just resumed in Maharashtra.
Students appearing for these exams have said the exams should be postponed considering Covid-19 risks.
Today, a group of more than 6000 students wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to take Suo-moto cognizance of the issue.
Hence, when Piyush Goyal made the tweet, students stormed the comment section of the tweet to ask him to note of the issue and do something about it.
Here's what students are saying. Have a look.
