A tragic incident unfolded in Uttar Pradesh's Pratapgarh district in the early hours of Thursday when a nearly 100-year-old house collapsed during heavy rainfall, claiming the lives of six members of the same family, including two infants. One person survived the accident but suffered serious injuries.

The collapse occurred at around 2 a.m. in Mahuli ward under the Kotwali police station limits, where all seven family members were asleep when the ageing structure suddenly gave way.

Rescue teams rush to the Spot

Residents in the neighbourhood alerted authorities immediately after hearing the collapse. Police personnel, firefighters, and rescue teams reached the site without delay and launched an operation to pull those trapped beneath the debris.

Deputy SP (City) Ashutosh Mishra said the old building collapsed without warning, leaving the family buried under the rubble. Rescue workers shifted the injured survivor to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Victims identified

The deceased have been identified as Pramod Srivastava (60), his wife Rita (55), their son Nitin (25), daughter-in-law Madhuri (23), and two young children-one-year-old Madhav and 10-month-old Babu alias Adivik.

Aman (28), another son of Pramod Srivastava and the father of Madhav, was the only survivor. He sustained severe injuries and is undergoing medical treatment.

Neighbour describes the tragic moment

Neighbour Poonam Srivastava said the family was asleep when disaster struck.

"The entire family was asleep when the roof suddenly caved in. Debris from the upper floor crashed onto the lower floor, trapping everyone inside."

Chief minister orders immediate relief measures

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took cognisance of the tragedy soon after receiving reports of the incident. He instructed senior officials to visit the site, oversee relief and rescue operations, and ensure that all necessary assistance reaches the affected family.

The Chief Minister also directed authorities to provide the best possible medical treatment to the injured survivor, extend every possible support to the bereaved family members, and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
