The state of Maharashtra is known for its gigantic forts which have a story to tell. We all come across places which have some kind of historical essence. Palghar is one such place situated 87 km north of Mumbai which will take us back in time. There are five forts located here and are sort of unknown among us. We bring to you its top attractions which will ignite the spark of an adventure among travelers.

It is situated near Shirgaon Beach; history says it was used by Shivaji Maharaj to keep his rivals in check. The place is laid with vibrant greens and palm farms which condition its beauty.

The fort is situated at Jawhar which It is a hill station that is 145 km from Mumbai. Also known as the ‘Mahabaleshwar’ of Thane due to its well preserved cultural heritage. The fort was built by Shivaji Maharaj. Legend says that Lord Ram and Sita would visit the fort with their children. There are four footprints which are believed to be theirs. There are Warli paintings which add a dash of tribal aura. Apart from that you can also explore Hanuman Point, Sunset Point, Dabhosa Waterfall, Kalmandvi Waterfall, Jai sagar Dam, Hiradpada Waterfall, Jai Vilas Palace, Shirpamal, Khadkhad Dharan (Dam).

Spread out in a rectangular form which makes it easier to locate. There is a vast spread of trees which soothes are visual appeal. The height of this fort is about 1550 feet.

It comes out to be a massive and burly fort which was built by Raja Bhoj 800 years ago. It takes about an hour or so to reach the top. There are beautifully carved steps and sculptures which are not in the best form but which remind us the skills or artisans who belonged to that era. Apart from the fort there are 17 water cisterns, 2 lakes, and a cave as you reach the top.

Built during the Portuguese Era it is located near Kelva Lake. It was used by Shivaji Maharaj during his rule. There are blankets of greenery around that will rejuvenate your senses.
