IPL franchise Mumbai Indians’ owner Mukesh Ambani has topped Forbes’ list of Richest Sports Team Owners 2019. Indian business tycoon Ambani, who is also Asia’s richest person, achieved the top spot in the list with a net worth of 50 billion dollars. Ambani had purchased IPL team Mumbai Indians in 2008 through a RIL subsidiary.
Steve Ballmer, former Microsoft CEO who bought American basketball team Los Angeles Clippers for 2 billion dollars, follows Ambani on the second spot in the list. Ballmer is followed by Dietrich Mateschitz on the third spot, founder of Red Bull energy drink.
Some others to feature in the top 10 spots are Hasso Plattner and family (owner of ice hockey team San Jose Sharks), Chelsea football club over Roman Abramovich and David Tepper who owns the American football team Carolina Panthers. Earlier, Ambani had also topped Hurun India Rich List and Hurun India Philanthropy List. In Forbes World’s Billionaire list, Ambani appeared on the 12th spot being the richest Indian on the list.
