Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) carried out a major anti-encroachment drive on NIBM Road in Kondhwa on Wednesday, demolishing several illegally constructed shops and structures that had encroached upon public land.
The action was undertaken as part of the civic body's ongoing efforts to remove unauthorised encroachments, improve traffic movement, and ease inconvenience faced by commuters and local residents.
Using heavy machinery, including excavators, PMC officials removed illegal shops and temporary structures built along the roadside. The drive was carried out under police security to ensure that the operation was completed without any disruption.
According to civic officials, the encroachments had narrowed the road and created traffic bottlenecks in the busy NIBM Road area. The demolition was aimed at reclaiming public space, improving road safety, and ensuring smoother vehicular movement.
The civic administration said similar drives will continue in other parts of the city to remove unauthorised constructions and keep roads free from encroachments. Residents have welcomed the action and expressed hope that it will help reduce congestion and improve accessibility in the area.
