In a major development in the Lalit Patil drug case, Pune Police arrested Vinay Aranha, the director of Rosary Education Group, following the court's approval of their request for custody from the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
Vinay Aranha had been previously apprehended by the ED and was being held at Taloja jail. He received brief medical treatment at Sassoon Hospital. Subsequent inquiries exposed his involvement in assisting Lalit Patil's escape during his treatment at the Sassoon Hospital, prompting the Pune Police to seek custody. The court granted their request, allowing Pune Police to take Arhana from Taloja jail, where they subsequently arrested him in connection with the Pune Drug Case.
Notably, just days prior, the city police had arrested Aranha's driver, Datta Doke, for aiding Patil's escape from the hospital.
The ED has asserted that Aranha, as a partner in the Pune-based Rosary Education Group, acquired loans amounting to Rs 46 crore from Cosmos Cooperative Bank in Pune using fraudulent documentation and utilized the funds for his extravagant lifestyle.
