Thane: The Thane police have arrested Kalicharan Baba from Raipur for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Mahatma Gandhi. The police took his custody and brought him to Thane.
A case was registered at Naupada police station on December 29 by cabinet minister Jitendra Awhad. The case was registered against Abhijeet Sarak alias Kalicharan Baba, a resident of Akola and five others. The case was registered under section 295 (A), 298, 505 (2), 506 and 34 of the Indian penal code.
The Naupada police during investigation found Kalicharan Baba was arrested by Wardha police in a case registered by them. "A team of Wardha police has arrested Kalicharan Maharaj from Raipur in a case of derogatory remarks allegedly made by him against Mahatma Gandhi on December 26.
As court gave him judicial custody Kalicharan was lodged in Raipur central jail in Chhattisgarh by the Wardha police.
The Naupada police took his custody from the Raipur court, near civil line road in Chhattisgarh. The team of one police officer and 8 police constables took a transfer warrant from the court to take Kalicharan custody from Raipur jail on January 19, 2022.
The police said the team had already left Raipur and may reach in the evening today. The Naupada police had already deployed bandobast outside the police station, where SRPF, RCP and local police stations are stationed for security reasons.
Avinash Ambure, Deputy commissioner of police, Zone 1 confirmed about the arrest and denied sharing further details.
