Mumbai: There is no legal impediment to begin work on Metro 3 (Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ) underground depot in Aarey, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) Commissioner SVR Srinivas said at his office on Tuesday, his last day of managing the additional charge of Metro 3 before Ashwini Bhide was posted back to the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL).
Despite Srinivas’ claim, the work on the car shed hasn’t begun even though the new government asserted its intention on the day of coming to power after toppling the erstwhile Maha Vikas Aghadi government.
Over a week has passed since then but no official statement has been issued either.
As per Srinivas’ claim, there is no stay on the work for Aarey car shed, which means the MMRCL need not inform the court about it. He reiterated deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis’ claim that no more trees need to be chopped in the area.
In 2019, MMRCL chopped 2,000 plus trees overnight for the controversial project, which drew a lot of criticism from citizens and environmentalists.
