Legendary actor Dilip Kumar breathed his last early on Wednesday at PD Hinduja Hospital, Khar, after prolonged illness. The 98-year-old thespian had been diagnosed with prostate cancer in advanced stage, along with other age-related illnesses. Doctors said he suffered cardioid-respiratory arrest at 7.30 am. A doctor said the actor had also suffered renal failure.
Pulmonologist Dr Jalil Parkar said Dilip Kumar passed away in the presence of his cardiologist Dr Nitin Gokhale. He said, “Saira ji took immense care of him during his illness. Apart from Dr Gokhale and me, he was treated by urologist Dr Anita Patel and surgeon Dr Jaideep Palep.”
Another doctor said he had fluid in his pleural cavity and required blood transfusion multiple times. He was bedridden for several months and had become unresponsive in the last few days. “We carried out the last transfusion but it did not help,” he said, adding that Dilip Kumar experienced a drop in blood pressure and haemoglobin towards the end. “The cancer spread made the treatment difficult,” he added.
