Mumbai Police successfully nabbed two brothers based in the Powai locality for stabbing a 21-year-old boy within two hours by using their social media accounts to track their whereabouts.
The two accused, identified as Ajay Sanjay Gupta, 23, and his brother, Monu Sanjay Gupta, 26 were initially friends with the victim, Vishal Rao.
As per the police, the Gupta brothers had known the victim for a long time but things got ugly after they had an altercation.
“The victim had verbally abused the two brothers during an argument, which was not taken in a good way by the latter,” said Budhan Sawant, senior police inspector of Powai police station.
The victim was stabbed by the two after which the duo fled the scene and hid somewhere in the locality.
Police recorded some statements from eyewitnesses who provided descriptions of the accused, based on which the cops started tracking their social media accounts to follow their activity.
Using clues from these activities, the Gupta brothers were held and arrested, within the span of two hours. Both of them are charged under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 302 (murder) by the Powai police station.
