Mumbai: A 32-year-old Kurla resident was brutally assaulted with a cement block during an argument that erupted over parking on Sunday afternoon. The Chunabhatti police have arrested four accused and charged them with attempt to murder.
According to the Chunabhatti police, the incident occurred near the Gulistan Building in Qureshi Nagar, Kurla. The police said that the complianant, Zeeshan Sheikh (32), and the accuse stay in the same colony and are known to each other.
“On Sunday afternoon, Sheikh came to the spot where he had parked his motorbike to see that it had been moved and another bike had been parked in the same spot. Knowing that the bike belonged to one of the accused, he stormed to his house to confront him. The other three accused were present at the time,” said assistant police inspector Sachin Sarade, Chunabhatti police station.
The confrontation soon turned violent, with the accused hitting Sheikh in the face with a cement block. Sheikh fell to the ground after being hit in the face and the accused proceeded to rain blows on him. They also assaulted his brother, who rushed to help, and then left the spot.
Sheikh was rushed to the Sion hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and is now recuperating. Meanwhile, the hospital authorities informed the Chunabhatti police and a team was sent to record Sheikh’s statement.
“We called the four accused for inquiries to the police station and subsequently placed them under arrest, charging them for attempt to murder, assault with dangerous weapon, criminal intimidation and intentional insult to provoke breach of peace under the Indian Penal Code. They were produced in court and remanded in police custody till June 30,” Sarade said.
