Mira Road, August 6, 2026: The political atmosphere in the city has heated up over potholes on the roads of Mira-Bhayander. On this issue, disputes among the ruling Mahayuti alliance partners have now come out into the open.
BJP MLA Narendra Mehta directly alleged that the approval of a Rs 500 crore loan, required for the concrete road development of the Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation, has been stalled for the last two years.
Speaking at a press conference, Mehta warned that if the loan file is not approved urgently, a "Rasta Roko" (road blockade) protest will be staged at 11 am on Monday, August 10, at the Fountain Hotel junction on the Mumbai–Ahmedabad Highway.
Mehta Alleges Delay
Addressing the media, MLA Narendra Mehta stated:
"The Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation itself will repay the loan; even then, why are obstacles being created in approving it? The concerned department is held by the Shiv Sena. If the loan had been granted, road works would not have remained incomplete. Due to a lack of funds, contractors have stopped work, leading to defamation of the city due to potholes."
He added that he discussed the matter with the Chief Minister, who assured him that a meeting would be called soon. Mehta also launched a strong attack on another Mahayuti leader, Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik.
Shiv Sena Responds
Following the aggressive stance of the BJP MLA, immediate responses came from the Shinde faction.
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde clarified that information regarding why the loan approval was halted would be gathered. If it was stopped, a positive decision regarding restarting it would be taken. Funds and expenditure necessary to avoid inconvenience to citizens are required.
Minister Pratap Sarnaik hit back at Mehta, alleging that since the Shiv Sena took a stand in the public interest, Mehta has become restless.
Raju Bhoir (Shinde faction district president) accused the city's condition of becoming grim due to the obstinate policies of Mayor Dimple Mehta, MLA Narendra Mehta, and the ruling BJP.
