If the coronagraph of the twin-city continues to maintain the ongoing downward trend for a few more days, the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) will soon become the first civic body in the district to hit the zero mark in terms of active Covid-19 cases in its jurisdiction. With 65 more people testing positive for the infection on Friday, the total number of cumulative patients catapulted to 50,108.
However, 48,666 people have so far recovered and discharged from various public and private healthcare facilities, limiting the number of activecases to 127. MBMC’s health department has reported only 1,127 cases in the first 18 days of this month.
Not only a significant dip in new cases has been reported, but the recoveries touched 1,808 outnumbering the daily spike on each of the days in the entire month. Stressing for a zeroCovid-19 approach, civic chief-Dilip Dhole said, “Stringent control measures, involving efficient contact tracing, testing and isolation, stress on proper treatment, together with peoples support has helped limit the spread of the infection. However this does not mean that we are free to lower our guard. While the administration is preparing itself to combat the eventuality of the third wave, people should continue wearing masks and maintain social distancing norms."
Notably, after nearly 81 days, no deaths were reported on Monday. However, the total death toll has already mounted to 1,315. This month 40 deaths have been reported. While the recovery rate has crossed 97 percent, the overall case fatality rate (CFR) continues to hover above 2.6 percent. As per official statistics, so far the MBMC has administered a total of 2, 68,969 doses of vaccines which includes-2, 04,441 first doses and 64,528 second doses.
