Mumbai: In a major benefit to patients, the State government run St. George’s Hospital is going to get a CT scan which will be highly useful in treatment of patients with different kinds of illnesses and injuries.
According to Dr Jagdish Bhavani, the hospital superintendent, it has been a long pending demand that they must get a CT scan machine which is one of the most basic diagonistic tools needed for treatment of patients. “There are many cases of railway accidents that are brought to CST station by train and then brought to this hospital for treatment,” he said. These patients have to be sent for a CT scan to know the extent of the injury and so that they can be given treatment accordingly.
However, the situation at present is that such patients have to be sent to either GT Hospital or JJ Hospital for this test and then brought back for treatment, Dr Bhavani said. “This results in a loss of precious time since it takes time to transport the patient back and forth and the other hospitals have their own list of patients waiting for a CT scan,” he pointed out.
In this light, it would be of great benefit if St. George’s Hospital gets its own machine and the patients will receive better treatment and care, he said. “The money for this project has already been sanctioned and we are hoping to get the machine in the next few weeks,” he said.
Commenting on this development, Dr SK Utture, honorary surgeon at St. George’s Hospital, there are many conditions like cancer, railway accidents and even road accidents where doing a CT Scan becomes quite necessary. “This facility is present in almost all the hospitals and it would be of great use if it becomes available to patients at this hospital also,” he added.
