Three Pune policemen have been arrested by the Narpoli police for allegedly looting ₹45 lakh cash from a businessman last while the fourth accused in the brother in law of the complainant who tipped the arrested policeman about the cash.
In the case the police have earlier arrested on Babubhai Solanki brother in law of the complaint who led the police to the three cops identified as
Ganesh Shinde, Ganesh Kamble and Dilip Pilane all attached to Dattawadi police station in Pune, currently all of them were on sick leave, said police.
On March 8, the complaint was on his way to Mumbai, in their car he was carrying a cash of around ₹5.5 crore which was to be delivered to his business partner in Mumbai. As per the police, the complainant is into business grapes cultivation.
In the morning Near Diva Village on Nashik-Mumbai Highway, his car was intercepted by three men of them two were policemen wearing uniform. Later he was taken to secluded locations where the policemen searched the car. They took ₹45 lakh cash on the pretext of depositing to the police station and fled. Two days later the complainant approached the Narpoli police to file his complaint.
Based on technical analysis the detection team from Narpoli police first nabbed Solanki who then led the cops to the rest of the accused, from Solanki the police have seized ₹5 lakh so far and efforts were on to recover the remaining money.
The first accused is brother in law of the complainant who tipped the arrested cops about the complainant's locations and about the money he was carrying. Accordingly the plot was hatched, said Madan Ballal, senior inspector of Narpoli police station.
As the case involved transfer of huge cash the police have alerted the Income Tax department about it, said another police officer.
