Mumbai: Andheri Police have booked an unidentified accused for impersonating known Bollywood filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani’s son and approaching aspiring actors.
The First Information Report (FIR) was lodged on the basis of a complaint given by the filmmaker's company, informing them of the fraud. While no arrests have been made yet, police are investigating the matter.
Earlier this month, Hirani's office had received an email from an aspiring actor to enquire about auditions for a casting call made by his son Kabir for a project titled '3 Teenage'. Hirani's team was shocked as they were not working on any such project and no casting call was made either.
The actor revealed that the imposter had used Kabir's name to advertise the requirement of actors for the project and had asked them to contact the production house. The advertisement was put out on Instagram wherein the fraudster had also tagged the filmmaker's account.
Vijay Belge, senior inspector of Andheri police station said that another aspiring actor had contacted the production house making the same enquiry, after which the latter decided to approach Andheri Police.
"A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act and investigation is underway. We are trying to ascertain if the accused fraudster has duped any aspiring actor using this modus operandi," said Belge.
Police are trying to identify the accused, who had used the production house's email ID, address and impersonated them to mislead people and cause a commotion in the filmmaker's name.
