Mumbai : A Metropolitan Magistrate in Borivli on Saturday remanded 28-year-old accused Amit Hazra to judicial custody till February 3 in connection with the murder of emcee Arpita Tiwari.
The Mawani police, which is probing the case, are tightlipped over the matter. However, the senior inspector Deepak Phatangare said, “We have got the lead in the case and further investigations are underway.”
Further arrests in the case cannot be ruled out, said Phatangare.
Tiwari was found dead on December 11 and her parents suspect that she was thrown out of 15th floor’s washroom of an elite building in Malad (west). Her body was partly covered. Five male members including her boyfriend and cook were present in the Manavsthal apartment of Malad.
All the five suspects including Tiwari’s boyfriend, Hazra and cook underwent polygraph test which was conducted at Directorate of Forensic Science Laboratory (DFSL) at Kalina.
Hazra was arrested after he failed in polygraph test and based on the circumstantial as well as technical evidences.
Malwani police claimed that Hazra was interested in Tiwari despite she was not showing any interest to date him.
The FSL report confirms that Tiwari was high on alcohol when she died.
Initially, the Malwani police registered Accidental Death Report (ADR) and later the First Information Report (FIR) was registered after Tiwari’s father cried foul play.
The FIR was registered under IPC sections of murder (302) and disappearance of evidence (201) against unknown person.
