Remembering Geeta Bali on her 52nd death anniversary, as she passed away on January 21, 1965. She is one Bollywood actress, who is considered to be one of the most spontaneous and expressive actor. But she lived a short life of stardom.

She was born in Amritsar in 1930 and her real name was Harkirtan Kaur. She was a very talented actor she did regular shows as a classical dancer. She did stage plays, she sang for All India Radio. She also knew horse riding and also learned martial arts. It was quite a lot for a woman in those times.

Geeta Bali belonged to golden era of Bollywood- the 50s and 60s, she died of smallpox at the young age of 34, leaving behind the body of work comprising of around 70 films. Like Bollywood movies Geeta Bali’s real life story is non less than a film. According to reports, Shammi Kapoor, who was just 23 and Geeta (24) fell in love during the shooting of their film ‘Rangeen Ratein’. Shammiji proposed her, Geeta took her time to say ‘Yes’.

Shammiji and Geeta Bali planned a simple wedding, when they reached the temple it was closed. They went again, in the morning around 4 am and got hitched. As per reports, Shammiji has put lipstick in her maang instead of sindoor.

Dirty Picture actress Vidya Balan played her part in her Marathi debut ‘Ekk Albela’. It is a biopic on legendary actor Bhagwan Dada with whom Geeta Bali made a hit on-screen pairing, delivering several memorable films together.
