Indore: Jams are perennial problems around Rajwada due to heavy flow of traffic throughout the day, particularly on the portion of MG Road between Rajwada and Krishnapura bridge.
The road is narrow and people make it narrower by parking their two-wheelers in front of shops. City buses too find difficult to while passing through this road as most of the space is occupied by handcarts particularly on Sundays. Even presence of traffic cops fail to solve the traffic mess.
Although a parking lot of the IMC exists at Subhash Chowk, people and traders don’t park their vehicles because it is located at a quite distance.
Moreover, the vehicles come from streets to main road create jams and make traffic movement slow. Somewhat similar situation exists on road from Jawahar Marg to Veer Sawarkar Market especially in the evening hours.
Businessman CS Upadhe, a resident of Tilak Nagar, said: Parking is a major problem around Rajwada Chowk and jams are frequent here. It is a commercial area and shoppers park their vehicles on the road instead of parking at parking lot. Though there is a police post, it fails to control the traffic flow.
Grain merchant ML Nekadi said handcart vendors occupy most of the road reducing its width on Sundays, making driving difficult. Encroachments on the road only add to the problem.
Shubham Yadav said he passes through Rajwada area daily. Most of time he found vehicles got into each other’s way in the evening.
