Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The huge difference between the polling percentage for IMC and eight other urban bodies in the district has shocked many. The difference was over 15 per cent. This has led people to draw their own conclusions about who could be the beneficiary of low voting in the city.
Although both the main rival political parties are claiming victory in the mayoral elections, poll pundits say that the low percentage of voting is generally seen in favour of the Opposition party. “Since the Congress was in the Opposition in the IMC council, the low percentage of polling may have gone in favour of Sanjay Shukla,” they said.
However, BJP election-in-charge Ramesh Mendola rejected such speculation. “The BJP’s Pushyamitra Bhargav is going to win the election with a record margin of votes,” he added. Congress vice-president Ajay Chordia said that the low percentage of voting was due to anti-incumbency. “Shukla is going to emerge victorious,” he added.
