Indore: About 12 artists from Kerala performed Vedanpaattu at Ravindra Natya Grah on Sunday evening. Vedan Padal or Vedanpaattu is organised in Kerela during monsoon month of Karkidakam (July-August). Under this, folk songs on different themes are presented through plays. Organised by Indore Nair Service Society, the performance given here on Sunday pertained to Arjuna, one of five Pandavas from Mahabharat. Sharing the storyline, writer Francis T Mavelikara said the legend behind the song is that of Arjuna receiving Pasupathastram from Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva in the role of Vedan engages Arjuna in a combat, which is explained in detail in the subsequent portion of song.
Another song presentation was related to farming. Director Valsan Nisari and producer Nadam Baiju said merits of farming were highlighted, which is essential not just for survival but for environment protection. The performance concluded with Vedan singing about benefits of farming and importance of good deeds. There was a special mention about keeping one’s house and surroundings clean during the month of Karkidakam.
