Indore (Madhya Pradesh): On the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, the Muslim community of the city performed namaaz amid light showers on Sunday. After a gap of 2 years, people were finally able to assemble in mosques to perform their prayers. The festival was celebrated with greater enthusiasm as it was the first time after the pandemic that no restrictions or guidelines were imposed and everyone was able to celebrate by hugging and greeting each other ‘Eid-Mubarak’. The main prayer, or namaaz, was recited at the Sadar Bazaar in the morning hours, while, in the other mosques around the city, people gathered despite light showers.
Shahr Qazi Ishrat Ali was brought to Sadar Bazar from his residence at Raj Mohalla on a chariot by reserve force convener Satyanarayan Salvadia. Later, congregational prayers were offered and everybody prayed for peace. Naushad Khan, along with his family and friends, informed Free Press that the community was praying for healing and good times to come back as the world had been through a lot of miseries during and after the pandemic.
People from different areas of the city, including Khajrana, Azad Nagar, Chandan Nagar, Bombay Bazaar, Musakhedi, Sadar Bazaar and Juna Risala came out onto the streets after two years to celebrate the festival with gaiety and joy even when the city was experiencing rain throughout most of the day. Sharif Muhammad said, “After looking at the situation in the country, I feel it’s important for everyone to know that Indore is a city where everybody celebrates and embraces a festival with togetherness and it’s my prayer to Allah that it stays this way always, where we can all come together to celebrate with happiness and peace.”
