While the health department and administrative officials have pulled up their socks to increase mobilisation of people to get their due second dose of vaccine, Indian Medical Association-Indore branch has appealed to the administration to put curbs to motivate people to get the doses at the earliest.
According to Immunisation Officer Dr Tarun Gupta, over 9.5 lakh people across the district are still to take the second dose of vaccine even after their due date has passed.
“As the festivities are over, we believe that the footfall to get the second dose of vaccine would increase from Monday. We have also prepared for the same as over 225 vaccination centres will be functioning on Monday and we will target for vaccinating over 50,000 people, ” Dr Gupta said.
The immunisation officer added that most of the centres were closed due to Diwali festivities and these will be open again.
“Administration has decided to rope in officials and staff of other departments as well to motivate people to get their due dose at the earliest,” Dr Gupta said.
Over 29.52 lakh people have taken the first dose of vaccine in Indore district while over 17.38 lakh people have taken the second dose as well.
Doctors to ask patients about vaccine status before consultation
Indian Medical Association-Indore Branch has decided to play their part in motivating people to take the second dose of vaccine as all the member doctors are asking patients about their vaccine status before the consultation.
“We have asked all the members to ask patients about their vaccination status and to ask them to take the dose at the earliest. We have also put awareness posters in the clinics for the same,” President of IMA-Indore Dr Sumit Shukla said.
Curbs should be imposed
Former president of IMA Dr Satish Joshi appealed to the administration to put curbs on those not taking the second dose of vaccine.
“Administration should ask all licencing authorities to see a complete vaccination certificate before generating the licence while passengers must be asked for the same before boarding in trains, flights, and buses,” he said adding “Schools must also ask for parents’ complete vaccination certificate before taking children in.”
