Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Nearly 55 per cent seats are still lying vacant in MEd colleges in the state even as registrations for an additional round of centralised online admission counselling is underway.
According to the data with MPOnline, a software service provider to the department of higher education (DHE), 1,512 seats out of a total of 3,350 seats in 66 MEd colleges in the state were filled in three rounds of counselling. That means that 1,838 seats are still lying vacant, which accounts for 55 per cent of the total intake capacity of MEd colleges in the state.
As far as colleges in Indore are concerned, there are a total of 400 seats in seven MEd colleges. Of the 400 seats, a mere 171 seats were filled in three rounds of counselling. That means, 229 seats are still lying vacant which accounts for 58% seats.
Interestingly, the admission percentage of the state is higher than that of Indore, which is the educational hub of Madhya Pradesh. While the admission percentage of the state is 45 per cent, Indore’s figure stands at 42 per cent.
The DHE had granted three rounds of counselling in teachers’ education courses this year. As seats remained vacant after three rounds, colleges had approached higher education minister Mohan Yadav and requested him for two additional rounds of counselling. Partially accepting their request, Yadav had granted one additional round of counseling, registration for which is currently underway. The registration will continue till July 2.
The common merit list will be announced on July 7, while allotment of seats will be made on July 15. Students allotted seats will have to submit 50 per cent of the fee amount to the colleges concerned by July 20 for confirmation of admission.
