Kolkata: One Hafizul Mulla (30), who was arrested by the police for entering the residence of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, was on Monday sent to police custody till July 18.
According to the police, Hafizul confessed that he has 11 SIM cards including a SIM card from Bangladesh and had done recce of the Mamata's house and her locality seven to eight times before entering the premises.
“Hafizul had confessed several things including information about the SIM cards. He also said that he had made several phone calls to Bangladesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Mumbai and Gujarat. We had appealed for police custody to interrogate him further,” said the police.
The police sources also mentioned that Hafizul went to Bangladesh by boat during the immersion day of Goddess Durga last year.
“Hafizul not only visited Bangladesh during Durga immersion last year but also participated in Holi and Rath Yatra in the locality of the Chief Minister and made good relationships with the children of Mamata Banerjee’s locality by bribing them with chocolates and cold drinks. Pictures of Mamata Banerjee’s route map and even locality were found from his mobile,” said the police sources, mentioning that the mobile of Hafizul is being sent for examination.
Hafizul had earlier also entered state secretariat Nabanna.
It can be noted that after Hafizul entered Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s house on July 4, cops on duty at Nabanna and even at Mamata’s residence at Kalighat area as part of her security detail have been barred from using mobile phones during the duty hours.
The cops have also formed an eight-member special investigation team (SIT) under joint commissioner of police (crime) Murlidhar Sharma to probe the lapses which allowed Hafizul to enter Mamata’s house with an iron rod.
