Lucknow: Farmers in Uttar Pradesh have until July 31 to register for crop insurance under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) for the 2025 kharif season. The scheme covers key crops including paddy, jowar, bajra, maize, urad, moong, tur, groundnut, soybean, and sesame. Registration can be completed through banks, Common Service Centers (CSCs), or the official website (http://www.pmfby.gov.in).
Under the PMFBY, farmers contribute only 2% of the total insurance premium, while the remaining amount is subsidized. The scheme offers financial protection against natural calamities like drought, floods, hailstorms, pest attacks, and crop diseases. It is operational in all 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh.
Farmers must report any crop damage within 72 hours of occurrence. This can be done by contacting the nearest crop insurance center, the local agriculture department office, or by calling the crop insurance helpline at 14447. Prompt reporting is essential for timely claim processing.
To register, farmers are required to submit their Aadhaar card, Khatauni (land record), bank passbook, and details of the crops to be insured. They are advised to accurately declare their land and crop information during registration to avoid claim-related discrepancies.
The scheme aims to offer income stability, facilitate agricultural credit repayment, and provide a safety net against crop-related risks.
