New Delhi: The Rajya Sabha’s 2-week budget session ended on Wednesday without carrying out any business except on the last day without any discussions. The Lok Sabha too ended the budget session with farewell speeches by leaders of the parties as the nation goes hereafter for electing the new Lok Sabha.
The Opposition had clash with Speaker Sumitra Mahajan all five years but their leaders showered praise on her in parting after the House passed two Bills on banning of unregistered deposit schemes and amendment in the Jallianwala Bagh National Memorial Act. A motion of thanks to the President for his address to the joint session of Parliament was passed by the Rajya Sabha unanimously and so was the interim budget without any debate.
The government had listed two controversial bills on triple talaq and citizenship to minorities from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh even on the last day, but did not press them as per the understanding to end the session without any further tension.
Unlike some misinterpretations that the two Bills lapse, the Rajya Sabha officials said both the Bills were already introduced in the House and as such they will remain on board for taking up in the next session after elections. It is, however, up to the government if it wants to enforce them through Ordinances, they said. Meanwhile, the Parliament Wednesday approved Modi Government’s sixth and final Budget .
