A popular Tamil magazine has created ripples by hinting at a deeper relationship between the 40-plus actor and DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi who is inching towards 90 years.
Chennai : Controversy seems to be following Kollywood actor Khushboo like a shadow. No sooner has the storm over her perceived anti-M K Stalin remarks died down, a popular Tamil magazine has created ripples by hinting at a deeper relationship between the 40-plus actor and DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi who is inching towards 90 years.
The magazine, without substantial basis, has gone to the extent of describing Khushboo as ‘Another Maniammai’ in its cover story insinuating her relationship with Karunanidhi is akin to that of the social reformer and Dravidian stalwart Periyar E V Ramasamy Naicker, who had married a young woman Maniammai at a ripe age. The magazine’s cover has a photograph of Khushboo standing next to a wheel-chair bound Karunanidhi, both dressed in black outfits – which is the colour popularised by Periyar.
The report also claimed that Karunanidhi’s family members were angry over Khushboo’s growing proximity with the party leader.
Incidentally, Khushboo had acted as ‘Maniammai’ in a biographical film ‘Periyar’, which was sponsored by the erstwhile DMK Government.
Angered by the wild reports, Karunanidhi on Saturday issued a stinging statement threatening legal and political action against the bi-weekly. “I will also see if I could stage a protest outside the magazine’s office,” he said alleging that such report were part of a larger conspiracy to eliminate the DMK from the political map.
“Is it right to write about a woman, that too a married woman with children, in such an obscene manner? Will people of Tamil Nadu put up with this,” he asked. Stating that his patience has been pushed to the limits, he called upon DMK cadre not to buy such publications.
Earlier, on Friday a hurt Khushboo had tweeted “They forget i m also a mother, wife n the lady of my home. pelt stones, write filth, defame, degrade..i m the woman of 21st century. i m a fighter.” In another tweet, she posted a message that read “Few out there cannot de-ter me from my fight n struggle to create a better platform of dignity for wo-men of my INDIA… stop me if u can!!”
