Raipur: A government doctor continuously treating infected patients of Covid 19, finally succumbed on the bed of Dr. BR Memorial Hospital, Raipur due to Mucormycosis (Black Fungus) infection.
The deceased was identified as Dr. BP Sonkar (61), resident Mungeli, was posted as Medical Officer, Police Welfare Hospital, Bilaspur.
Public Relations Officer of BR Ambedkar Hospital Shubra Singh said, the senior doctor suffering from black fungus infection was admitted into the hospital on May 29.
Earlier, a month ago he was infected of Covid 19. Unfortunately, after he recovered from Covid, he got infected from the black fungus. He was also suffering from hypertension and other ailments finally collapsed on Tuesday, the officer said.
Director, Chhattisgarh State Epidemic Control and Prevention, Dr. Subhash Mishra confirmed his death and said, despite surgery being carried out he had not survived. The infection has spread up to his brain, Dr. Mishra added.
Till date more than 7 people have died from the black fungus infection in the state.
Till the time 190 cases of black fungus were detected in the state. Out of which 144 patients are getting treatment in AIIMS, Raipur.
