Kolkata: Condoling the families of those who have died in the flash flood in Amarnath, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday opened a control room at the state secretariat Nabanna and had assured all help to the people.
“Shocked and stunned by the Amarnath disaster. Sincere condolences to kins of the victims, solidarity to the trapped and stranded. Opened control room in Nabanna (033- 22143526), activated our Delhi RC office, connected J&K government for rescue of pilgrims from Bengal. All help will be extended to our affected families,” wrote the Chief Minister on Twitter.
According to Nabanna sources, a woman from South 24 Parganas' Baruipur area died and at least 12 devotees from North Bengal’s Jalpaiguri are stranded in Amarnath.
Resident of Lake Town, Bipul Ghosh, also faced the calamity and moved to Pahalgam base camp. He is safe currently.
Ghosh’s mother Rikta Ghosh said that she had spoken with her son and found that he is safe.
At least 16 people died after the flash floods took place on Friday and several camps and community kitchens got washed away in Amarnath.
According to sources, the search is still on for those who are still missing.
