Thane: Maharashtra PWD minister Eknath Shinde here inaugurated the 1.12-km long Mahape junction flyover that connects Mumbra-Panvel and Thane-Belapur roads. State Urban Development minister Dr Ranjit Patil was also present on the occasion yesterday. Shinde, who is also the guardian minister of Thane, said that the new flyover will provide seamless connectivity between the city and metropolitan regions.

The flyover, constructed by MMRDA (Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority) with a cost of Rs 90 crore, will cross four junctions and has two paths for to-and-fro traffic. It will also decongest grid-lock situations at Mahape junction, Mahape Gaon, Guru Govind Singh junction and Millennium Business Park (MBP) junction. The journey from south Mumbai to Kalyan, Dombivali and Ambarnath regions is also expected to smoothen due to the flyover. Patil speaking on the occasion said, “If we want better and smoother connectivity to (city) Mumbai, we will have to create infrastructure. Mahape flyover will be a great move in that direction.”

Additional metropolitan commissioner, MMRDA, Sanjay Sethi said that the flyover will ease the traffic congestion in Navi Mumbai and will reduce travel time and fuel cost. In view of the rapid growth of the region and meeting future demands, the flyover will play a vital role, he added.
