Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao will soon be appointed as Election Commission of India's 'National Icon'. The formal announcement will be made on October 26. This move comes ahead of the Assembly Polls which are set to be held in five states of the country next month.
The Election Commission notified that a formal ceremony, wherein Rajkummar will be announced as the 'National Icon', will be held on Thursday.
In November, assembly elections will be held in five states -- Mizoram (November 7), Madhya Pradesh (November 17), Chhattisgarh (November 7 and 17 -- two phases), Rajasthan (November 23) and Telangana (November 30).
Rajkummar's appointment as the National Icon is even more crucial as it comes on the heels of the general elections which will be held in 2024. The actor has been appointed by the EC in a bid to encourage citizens to exercise their right to vote and elect their ideal candidate during the elections.
Rajkummar is yet to issue an official statement on the development.

Meanwhile, on the work front, the actor has a number of films in the pipeline. He will be next seen in Mr and Mrs Mahi, in which he will be reuniting with his Roohi co-star Janhvi Kapoor. In the film, the two of them will reportedly be seen playing cricketers.
The release of the film is yet to be announced.
Besides, Rajkummar is also set to play the lead in the inspirational biopic of industrialist Srikant Bolla, titled 'Sri'. The film also stars Alaya F, Jyothika and Sharad Kelkar.
Recently, it was announced that Rajkummar will be sharing the screen with Tripti Dimri in 'Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video', but not much has been revealed about it yet, except that it will be a family entertainer.
