Actress Shilpa Shetty's husband, businessman Raj Kundra, is gearing up for the release of his first film UT 69. While promoting the film, Raj has made several revelations about his life. In one of his recent interviews, Raj also recalled how his family supported him and stood by his side when he was arrested in the porn film case.
While interacting with Indian Express, Raj also shared that Shilpa Shetty suggested that they should leave India and settle abroad. Raj was often trolled and criticised after he was named in the case in 2021.
"My wife was actually the first person to say, ‘Do you want to live abroad Raj? You left everything in London, you were born and brought up there, you moved here because I wanted to be here. But if you want, I can make things work and let’s leave the country, let’s go abroad.’ I told her that I love India and won’t leave. Log bade bade kaand kar ke, hazarao crore kamake desh se nikal jaata hai, but I have done nothing so I won’t leave the country," he reportedly stated.
The businessman also revealed that he broke down in prison several times because of humiliation and reputational damage.
Raj added, "I had really broken down, enough to probably end things inside. I won’t use the word, but I was in a… There was so much humiliation, reputational damage. Because of me, media went behind my wife, children and parents. That was painful."
Shilpa and Raj got engaged in 2009. The two got married the same yearand welcomed their first child, a son in 2012. The couple was blessed with their second child, a daughter via surrogacy in February 2020.
Raj was arrested in July 2021 and he spent nearly two months in prison. After getting bail, Raj used to always cover his face with unique masks whenever he stepped out in public. During the trailer launch of his upcoming film on October 18, Raj unveiled his face in front of the media after nearly 1.5 years.
Meanwhile, UT 69 delves into the unforgettable chapter of the businessman's life when he spent 63 days at the Arthur Road Jail, Mumbai, during his under-trial period. The film, a witty dark comedy, brilliantly captures the trials, challenges, and unexpected friendships that Raj encountered during his time in jail.
Raj was arrested in July 2021 for allegedly producing pornographic videos and was granted bail in September. He was booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Indecent Representation of Women (Prevention) Act and the Information Technology Act.
