Due to back-to-back lockdowns, small businesses have been hit the most amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Seeing the situation, actress Debina Bonnerjee has come forward to extend her support to people involved in such businesses.
She has taken the initiative to help homegrown and budding fashion designers to reach out to a wider audience in these hard times. Debina has been promoting their brands and products on her social media accounts.
“There are some people who can afford to shop in these difficult times. I have observed people opting for digital shopping amid the pandemic. Shopping acts as a stress-buster for many...so I thought why not to urge those people to buy products from homegrown and budding fashion labels...why not support our local weavers. The aim is to create work opportunities for our local workers amid the pandemic,” Debina said.
Debina isn't charging these businesses a single penny to promote their brands and products. She has been actively coordinating with her team to collaborate with people who are in dire need of money. “I have decided not to take a penny from such labels. I will wear the dresses, do a photoshoot and put pictures on social media accounts. I will even return the dresses to them. We actors keep on getting several gifts from different labels... Sometimes we even don't open them or post something about it on social media due to some or the other reason...but currently we should avoid such practices. We should come together to promote each other's work. Support each other. Love each other. That's how we will be able to beat this pandemic,” Debina urged.
The current situation has made Debina understand the actual role of social media. “Earlier, we used to put glamorous photos on Instagram. We only used the social media platforms to flaunt our perfect selfies and vacation pictures. But now I have understood the real meaning of social media. It is a way to connect with others and help them in times of need. It's a way to create awareness about something. Covid has brought the real side of social media. I hope we keep using social media like this always," Debina added.
