Watching horror movies can never be easy especially with a creepy doll calling out your name, crawling after you, asking you to play with it. Over the years cinema has seen its grotesque and funny versions of such haunted dolls that have wretched havoc in the theatres and in your house.
With Annabelle Comes Home releasing this weekend, you can take a look at some of the other dolls featuring on the big screen
Child’s Play Series there have been several release since 1998 with a recent digitally advance release in 2019 titled the same.
Chucky series, this doll has been the biggest concern of 90’s kids. It didn’t just create a series of its own but also managed to inspire other movies and regional adaptation of the haunted doll genre.
Conjuring series, changed the way people perceived horror and then came in the original doll Annabelle series, which further became a spin off series as we followed the tales of Ed and Lorraine Warren.
The Boy series is an underappreciated film of the lot, which managed to grab the audience with suspense and thrill instead of jump scares. The series also has a part two releasing in 2019.
Zapatlela and Zapatlela 2 is the regional, Marathi adaption of Chucky, which release in 1993 and in 2013. The film was a classic, which brought nightmares and laughter to many and still does.
Papi Gudia was a 1996 release in Hindi which followed a similar plot starring Karisma Kapoor. While the film wasn’t much appreciated at the time, haunted dolls has now become a beloved genre.
