Abhimanyu Dassani, son of actress Bhagyashree, made his Bollywood debut with Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota in 2018 and followed it up with Meenakshi Sundareshwar. The Free Press Journal caught up with him for a tête-à-tête.
When asked if he is lucky or selective while choosing films, he says, “Am I lucky or am I selective? Yes, I had to forgo so many films. Yes, I did have to say no to a few films. For that, you need to have patience and self-belief. The people around you have to be patient and have that belief in you too.”
Opening up about his upcoming projects, he reveals, “My next film is titled Aankh Micholi. Working with Paresh (Rawal) sir, Sharman (Joshi) sir and Divya Dutta was a great experience. I am very excited about this film.”
When asked if he too will act in South Indian films like his mother, he explains, “I would love to do South films. When I signed up for Meenakshi Sundareshwar, it was my first step to showcase that I can carry that image. I have always, from the past 10-15 years, been influenced by various South stars like Allu Arjun, Nani and a lot of actors from Malayalam cinema like Fahadh Faasil and so many more.”
While his mother was so coy, Abhimanyu is the exact opposite as far as dancing on screen is concerned. “I have done a lot of hard work. My mom is happy and proud of me. I have definitely inherited patience from her. Actually, my patience is a little more. I am probably the most patient in the house,” he says.
Elaborating further, he adds, “Life teaches you, but I am still learning a little more. I have been through a lot during my short life span.”
Showbiz is known to show, especially actors, the highest highs and the lowest lows. Abhimanyu agrees, but he has a solid support system in place. “My friends and family help me to be grounded. Maintaining my highs, as you say, is really not easy. I am grounded in reality only because of the kind of friends and family I have,” he concludes.
