Bhopal: Bhopal Municipal Corporation commissioner Chhavi Bhardwaj, while talking to Free Press, said, “Two Boulevard roads will be proposed ‘Smart City’ Bhopal’s centre of attraction.” An example of ‘state of the art’ technology, the city will be equipped with all modern amenities.
She further said that BMC will speed up developmental work to shape up the Smart City. Tender process is already underway, she added.
The project will come up on 342 acres. While 2,850 old houses will be demolished, 3,000 new houses will be constructed. High rise buildings of 14 and 17 floors will be constructed. Stating that commercial plots would be up for sale shortly to earn money, Bhardwaj said that an open tender would soon be invited. She also shared blue print of the Smart City with Free Press.

PMC will be responsible for complete project development, including detailed designing and master planning, market demand assessment, project cost estimation, infrastructure investment plan, EIA, making a business plan, carry out feasibility studies, implementation road map including project packaging, DPRs, preparation of bid documents, selection of implementing agency, project management and planning, project monitoring and control including transaction advisory services.

Bhopal is among 20 cities selected in first round of Smart Cities Challenge under Government of India’s (GoI) Smart Cities Mission (SCM) to implement Smart City Proposal (SCP). According to SCP, at least 10% of electricity consumption must be from renewable resources. In pursuance of the aforesaid, solar power plant for generation of 4 MW of electricity has been planned in all office buildings and parks of Bhopal Municipal Corporation.
