Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A woman has approached police claiming that her husband pronounced talaq thrice because she had supported BJP, said Chhindwara police on Tuesday. However, the complainantís husband has denied the allegations saying that he pronounced talaq at three different intervals in accordance with the Muslim law over infidelity. Police have booked the man under relevant sections.
Kotwali police station in-charge Umesh Golhani told media persons that the woman had told the police that she got married to a man nearly eight years ago. Their relations were normal for some time, but later her husband, mother-in-law and sisters-in-law allegedly started taunting and beating her over some or the other issue, Golhani said, quoting the complaint.

The woman has claimed her in-laws had thrown the couple from the house around one-and-a-half-year back and so they stayed in a rented room, he said.
Quoting the complaint, Golhani said the woman supported a political party and voted in favour of it, which further angered her husband, after which he gave her 'triple talaq'.
Based on the woman's complaint, the police have registered a case against her husband, mother-in-law and four sisters-in-law under provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act, the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act and the Indian Penal Code, he said.
The woman's husband, while talking to reporters, alleged she had extramarital affairs which caused the 'disturbance' and that he gave her several chances (for reconciliation) for the sake of their child's future.
This is not an issue of 'instant triple talaq' or supporting any political party as there was no election in 2022, he claimed. The man claimed that he pronounced the first talaq to his wife on March 30, 2022, and the second one in October and third talaq was pronounced in November 2023, in accordance with the Muslim law.
