Bhopal/Indore(Madhya Pradesh): The first phase of civic body elections started in the state on Wednesday.
According to reports, 38.95 % voting turned out in state capital Bhopal till 3 pm whereas 38.93% polling in Indore district till 1 pm.
On the other hand, 51% polling in Ujjain Municipal Corporation and 70% in Barnagar Municipal Council till 3 pm.
Besides, many leaders and prominent people were spotted casting their votes at various polling centres in the state.
Water Resource Minister Tulsi Silawat casted his vote with family in Indore. He waited for his turn in a queue at the polling booth here.
BJP Mayoral Candidate Pushyamitra Bhargav also casted his vote with his family at a booth in Sudama Nagar, Indore.
After casting vote, Bhargav addressed the media person here. Bhargav said, “We are assured of our win due to the development model of CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan and leadership of state party president VD Sharma. It is a contest between money power and will power.”,
Bhopal Collector Avinash Lavania cast his vote along with his wife at 74 Bungalow polling station. He appealed to all the voters to cast their votes.
In Jabalpur, 30.4% polling was recorded till 1 pm. Rajya Sabha MP Vivek Tankha casted his vote and appealed to the public to exercise their voting rights.
71.5 % polling in Bhedaghat Municipal Council, 57.3% in Panagar municipal council, 51.2 in Sihora municipality, 57.7% in Barela municipality till 1 pm.

Among others seats, Sagar mayoral polls have an interesting contest on offer as Congress party is taking on three ministers –Gopal Bhargav, Bhupendra Singh and Govind Singh Rajput. Plus, Congress candidate, Nidhi jain is also sister in law of senior BJP MLA Nishank Jain. Congress is pinning hopes on traditional Jain votes and the party has also roped in senior leaders from Bundelkhand to sway things in Nidhi’s favour.

As voting started at a brisk pace in Indore amid clear weather, the candidates of BJP and Congress sought blessings of the God first before setting out in the field, Sanjay SHukla of Congress used an open jeep to roam around in the city seeking support. He stopped at an roadside eatery and had breakfast with locals. He cast his vote at a polling booth in Banganga area.
Elderly woman dies in Damoh
An elderly woman, 90, died after reaching the polling centre in Damoh this morning. A native of Maganj Ward, Kamal Rani had reached the polling booth at Norbit School but fainted upon reaching the EVM. She was rushed to the district hospital where she was pronounced dead by doctors.

BJP, Congress supporters clash with each other amid ongoing polling in Gwalior
The supporters of BJP and Congress Party clashed with each other amid ongoing polling at Tiwari School polling station in Gwalior on Wednesday.
According to reports, the clash broke out regarding the voters. On getting the information, the police rushed to the spot to pacify the situation. Later, the husband of Congress mayoral candidate, Satish Sikarwar also reached the spot to overlook the situation.
Sikarkar, however, alleged that he was visiting all the polling booths and it came to his notice that the administration was working under the pressure of the state government. He also alleged that the administration was influencing polling.
Congress Mayoral candidate and BJP mayoral candidate met each other with warmth near a polling booth at Sirpur area.
