Singrauli (Madhya Pradesh): The panchayat election results in Singrauli have come as a setback for the saffron party and Congress as many candidates supported by them in panchayat polls have failed to perform as per expectations.
In the last phase of the zilla panchayat member election, many veterans of BJP and Congress lost in Chitrangi. Former district panchayat president Radha Singh, who is the daughter-in-law of former cabinet minister Jagannath Singh has lost to independent candidate Archana Singh.
This time the post of Singrauli district panchayat president is reserved for ST, so it was believed that the one who wins from this seat will sit on the post of district panchayat president, but in the election results, Radha Singh (ST) came fourth and Saraswati Singh (ST) was in fifth place. This time the seat was for a general woman but along with the general candidate, Radha Singh (ST) and Saraswati Singh (ST) also tried their luck from the general seat but both were rejected by the public.
Singrauli's outgoing mayor Premvati Khairwar, who was in the fray from Chitrangi's reserve seat, was also defeated. Similarly, former cabinet minister Jagannath Singh's son and outgoing district panchayat vice-president Ravindra Singh also lost the election.
The most interesting thing is that any candidate supported by BJP who could have become district panchayat president could not win this time. Most of the newcomers have won as zilla panchayat members.
Independent candidate Archana Nagendra Pratap Singh, who defeated Radha Singh and Saraswati Singh, is highly educated. She has done MBA and has also served for a long time in big companies.
