BHOPAL (Madhya Pradesh): Bhopal witnessed a lack of enthusiasm in voters which was baffling for both the ruling party and opposition. Till evening, poll percentage in Bhopal was barely above 50.6 pc. Despite the fact, the weather was clear almost throughout the day.
In addition to the BJP and the Congress, Aam Admi Party (AAP) set its tables at almost every polling booth in the state capital. It was the first time, AAP registered its sincere presence in public.
Polling agents of political parties attributed low polling percentage to lack of enthusiasm among voters regarding civic issues. They said that even during poll campaign, public did not show much interest for civic body polls.
Polling agents of political parties informed that family members came here to cast vote. But, they were told that one member's name was in list here and other members; names were in the list of other polling booths. They got irritated over this.
State Congress media cell vice-president Bhupendra Gupta attributed low percentage of votes in Bhopal to faulty voters lists.
He said lakhs of voters were deprived of exercising their voting rights as either their names were found missing in the voters lists or their names were shifted to some other wards by state election commission.
1. In Bhopal, an independent candidate's husband Monu Gohil and his associates were accused of assault. Some people vandalised the vehicle of Sunil Pandey, former district general secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party and election committee convenor of Ward 45 and hundreds of people surrounded him. Later, hundreds of BJP leaders and workers including Rahul Kothari, Surjit Singh Chouhan reached the police station and staged a dharna as mark of protest.
2. At the polling booth of Thakur Kamal Singh Smriti Vidyalaya Sharda Nagar in Ward 12 of Bhopal, EVMs were placed on a table with the name of Congress candidate Sudhir Gupta. He is also a councillor from this ward. Aam Aadmi Party leader Minhaj Alam has said to complain about it.
3. Many first-time voters and other voters too had to face hassles as their names were found missing in voter lists. First-timer Sapna Gupta moved from Old Campion School to Subhash Excellence School to find her name in the voter list. She got irritated and frustrated. When she visited the polling booth in Old Campion School, she was told to go to Subhash Excellence School. She visited there but again she was told to go to Old Campion School. She again came at Old Campion School and created ruckus to find out her name in voter list. Finally, she succeeded and cast her vote.
