Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) star Virat Kohli's aggression was on display while celebrating his catch of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter Daryl Mitchell during IPL 2024 clash at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday, May 18.
Chasing a hefty target of 219 runs set by Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Chennai Super Kings lost an early wicket in skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad for a golden duck. Daryl Mitchell walked out to bat no.3 and joined Rachin Ravindra at the crease to carry on CSK's run-chase.
However, Mitchell had a short stay at the crease as he was dismissed for 4 at 19/2. In the third over, Daryl Mitchell lofted the ball over the mid-off off Yash Dayal's delivery. Kohli, who was positioned inside the 30-yard circle, sprinted across and took a catch.
After taking the catch, Kohli celebrated it aggressively as it was another big breakthrough for RCB. RCB batter's wife Anushka Sharma stood up to applaud her husband's catch. The video of the same went viral on social media.
After Daryl Mitchell's dismissal, Rachin Ravindra was joined by Ajinkya Rahane in the middle. The pair revived CSK's batting by forming a 66-run partnership until Rahane was dismissed for 33 at 85/3. Rachin continued his fine innings and brought up his maiden IPL fifty in 32 balls.
The southpaw played a brilliant innings of 61 off 37 balls until he was run out by Dinesh Karthik at 115/4. Then, Chennai Super Kings lost big wicket in Shivam Dube, dismissed for 7 at 119/5. Ravindra Jadeja was joined by Mitchell Santner at the crease. However, Santner had a shot stay at the crease as he was dismissed for 4 at 129/6.
Virat Kohli completes 700 runs in IPL 2024
Virat Kohli has been in a sensational form in the ongoing IPL season as he became the first player to complete 700 runs. With this, Kohli joined his former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) teammate Chris Gayle to become the only batters to amass 700 runs in two different editions of the tournament.
With 47-run knock, Kohli has now amassed 708 runs, including a century and six fifties, at an average of 64.36 and a strike rate of 155.60. The RCB's talismanic batter is currently leading the Orange Cap race ahead of Ruturaj Gaikwad (583), Travis Head (533*), Riyan Parag (531*), Sai Sudharsan (527) and Sanju Samson (504*).
Kohli was the second leading run-getter for RCB in the last IPL season, amassing 639 runs. including two centuries and six fifties, at an average of 53.25 in 14 matches.
