IND vs ENG 3rd Test Day 3: India Lose Rohit Sharma But Hosts In Driver's Seat With 170-Run Lead
England bundled out for 319 and handed over a 126-run lead to India for the second innings.
Team India assumed their second innings batting after bundling out England for 319 on Day 3 of the ongoing third Test against England at Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot on Saturday, February 17.
In India's bowling, Mohammed Siraj led the fightback with four-wicket haul while Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav picked two wickets each. For England, Ben Duckett emerged as the star performer as he dominated the Indian bowlers with a knock 153 off 151 balls.
England handed a 126-run lead to India for the second innings. India openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma provided a steady start to the hosts' inning. The opening pair was looking to form a good partnership until Rohit was trapped with LBW by Joe Root for 19 at 30/1.
After Rohit dismissal, Yashasvi Jaiswal was joined by Shubman Gill at the crease to carry on India innings. The pair steadied the ship towards the end of second session.
At tea, India posted a total of 44/1 in 16 overs and with a 170-run lead on the board, with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill batting on 19 and 5. For England, Joe Root once again showcased his brilliance as he registered figures of 1/19 in 7 overs.
England's batting crumbled after Lunch
England failed to get the momentum going in the second session of the ongoing Test in Rajkot. Before Lunch, England were 290/5 with Ben Stokes and Ben Faokes batting on 39 and 6, respectively.
After Lunch break, the visitors batting began to crumble. Ben Stokes, who was in good touch, was dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja for 41 at 299/6. Then, England lost Ben Foakes for 13 in quick succession, dismissed by Mohammed at 299/7.
Thereafter, England's batting further collapsed as they were reduced to 299/7 to 319/10, losing three wickets in just 20 runs. Rehan Ahmed (6), Tom Hartley (9) and James Anderson (1) were dismissed cheaply while Mark Wood was unbeaten on 4.
At the End of Day 2, England were 207/2. On Day 3, the hosts lost remaining eight wickets in 112 runs. Ben Duckett's dismissal triggered a further collapse in hosts' batting line-up.
