Australian Open 2024: Rohan Bopanna Becomes Oldest Grand Slam Champion, Wins Maiden Men's Doubles Major With Matthew Ebden
Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden won 7-6, 7-5 in the summit clash, with the Indian veteran becoming the oldest Grand Slam winner in history at 43 years and 329 days.
Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden made history on Saturday as they clinched the Australian Open 2024 title after defeating the Italian pair Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassor in the men's doubles final.
Bopanna and Ebden won 7-6, 7-5 in the summit clash, with the Indian veteran becoming the oldest Grand Slam winner in history at 43 years and 329 days. He will also become the oldest world No. 1 doubles player when the rankings are issued on Monday.
This is also Bopanna and Ebden's maiden Grand Slam title as a pair.
Ebden hails Bopanna
"What an amazing tournament. Thanks to my amazing partner. He is 43 years old, this is his first men's Grand Slam doubles title!
"Age is not a number for this guy. He is young at heart. He is a champion and a warrior. He has fought hard alongside me the past year and I am forever grateful to him," Ebden said after the match.

Bopanna has now become the second Indian to win the Australian Open men's doubles title after Leander Paes (2012), and also clinch the first Grand Slam for his country in 7 years.
Before this triumph, Bopanna had never won a men’s doubles title at a Grand Slam tournament despite reaching the final twice before with both occasions being at the US Open in 2013 and 2023.
Bopanna's first Major title before this was the 2017 French Open mixed doubles trophy he won with Gabriela Dabrowski.
