Maharashtra government partially lifts 4-year ban on single use plastic
The Maharashtra government in a late evening order on Thursday partially lifted a four-year plastic ban. With this the government has allowed use, storage, trade, distribution, and transportation of all single-use disposable items including spoons, straws, plates, cups, glasses, forks, and containers that are made by using compostable material.
In a circular issued, the environment and climate change department (ECCD) has also permitted use of plastic packaging material with thickness below 50 microns and non-woven polypropylene bags, of at least 60 grams per square metre (GSM).

A woman gave birth to a child in a local train today at 5.58 am. The train manager of Kasara local (UP) while train at Titwala station alerted that a woman was experiencing labour pain. On-duty station master Toofan Lal Meena and pointmen Santosh Karu and Somnath Godse with the help of GRP and RPF rushed the woman to a hospital after she delivered a baby boy in the local train.

Waste segregation pilot underway in 2 wards
The BMC has initiated its pilot project in two wards to achieve 100% waste segregation at source in two wards. It will deploy dedicated vehicles to collect wet waste, which will be transported to the composting plant in Kanjurmarg.
Nearly 50 housing societies from G-South (Worli Seaface) and 150 from H-West (Khar) are participating in the programme that started on Nov 15. Those complying with the civic norms will get a 5% rebate in property tax and will also be felicitated, a civic official said.
Deputy Chief Engineer (Operations) Praful Jadhav said, “A civic team will create awareness in societies, hold meetings with office bearers, play jingles and arrange competitions to encourage complete waste segregation. Our supervisory staff conducts random checks to ensure there’s no mischief.”

VIP movement likely to hamper traffic flow in the city today, on weekend
The Mumbai Traffic Police on Thursday announced that due to planned VIP movement on December 2, between 11 am to 12:30 pm and 2:30 pm to 5 pm, traffic movement will be slow around Santacruz, Vakola, Bandra, Worli-Sea Link, Haji Ali, Air India, Regal Circle. “Citizens are requested to plan their commute accordingly,” they cautioned.
VIP movement and events in the city scheduled through the weekend are likely to throw traffic on several routes in the suburbs and south of Mumbai into a disarray from Friday. Traffic disruption is expected to spill into the weekend.
