Pune businessman cheated of Rs 55 lakh by fraudsters assuring franchise in cricket league 

A 41-year-old businessman from Pune was allegedly cheated of Rs 55 lakh on the pretext of getting a franchise of a team in USA Cricket League, police said on Tuesday.

A case has been registered against five persons from Mumbai, who allegedly cheated the complainant, an official said.

Maha: Seven habitual offenders externed from three districts

The police have externed seven habitual offenders hailing from Bhiwandi town in Maharashtra's Thane district, an official said on Tuesday. As per an order issued by deputy commissioner zone II Bhiwandi Navnath Dhawale, the accused have been externed from the limits of Thane, Raigad and Mumbai districts. The accused are residents of Kongaon, Shantinagar, Bhoiwada, and Nizampura police station limits, the official said.

The Borivali police have tracked a conman who allegedly forged the letterhead of BJP leader Ashish Shelar and duped the parents of a student worth over Rs 1 lakh by promising admission. Mr. Shelar's personal assistant registered a complaint with the Borivali police on Monday.

According to the police, the parents of a student from Bandra were promised admission by the suspect, who used a fake letterhead belonging to Mr. Shelar and also forged his digital signature. He took Rs 130,000 from the parents for the ‘so-called’ favor.

Traffic police’s seat belt drive nets 48,000 offenders in 15 days

In a fortnight starting Nov 15, 48,735 car drivers and passengers, including those seated at the rear, have been penalised for not wearing seat belts, data from the Mumbai Traffic Police reveal.

On Oct 14, the police had issued an order making the wearing of seat belts by all occupants of motor cars compulsory from Nov 1, a deadline that was extended to Nov 10 to give more time to the police to spread awareness.

The data reveal that 19,495 motorists (drivers) and 29,240 rear-seat passengers have been penalised for not buckling up.

Chaityabhoomi all set to host Ambedkar followers on his 66th death anniversary

Chaityabhoomi is ready to host Dr BR Ambedkar’s followers who are in Mumbai to mark his 66th death anniversary.

Observed as Mahaparinirvan Diwas (Dec 6), the day draws thousands of people from across the state at Shivaji Park in Dadar. 

Facilities for visitors

The BMC has also provided various facilities at Rajgruha, the residence of Dr Ambedkar at Dadar Hindu Colony. Tents have been set up at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar College in Wadala, at the Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and six municipal schools. 

Besides, there are VIP rooms, a control room, primary health facilities, ambulances, drinking water, toilets, benches and lighting facilities along with charging points.
