Mumbai News: 20-Year-Old Woman Navy Agniveer Trainee Dies By Suicide In Malad; Probe On
Malvani Police registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and is carrying out further operations.
Mumbai: A 20-year-old woman, who was under training in the Navy for Agniveer, allegedly died by suicide by hanging herself on Tuesday. As per an official, the woman was under training at INS Hamla at the time of the incident. Malvani Police registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and is carrying out further operations, said Mumbai Police. The deceased has been identified as Aparna Nair.
According to her roommate, when she returned to her room and knocked repeatedly at the door, Nair apparently did not respond. Later, she informed the other girls and the hostel staff who broke open the door and found Nair's body there. After getting information about this incident, Navy doctors were called who examined the girl and declared her dead.
Details Reveal Cause Of Suicide
According to sources, Aparna was in a romantic relationship that did not go well. She died by suicide by hanging herself with the help of a bedsheet. However, there are no reports of her lover being investigated or held in connection with the matter.
Chimaji Adhawa, Senior Police Inspector, said, "The police sent her body to Bhagwati Hospital in Borivali West and subsequently transported it to her hometown in Kerala. While no suicide note was found at the scene, personal reasons are believed to be a factor in her decision to take her own life. She was undergoing Agniveer training and stayed at the Navy campus in Malad."

Agniveer is a term used for soldiers recruited under the Agnipath Scheme. The scheme was announced on June 14, 2022.
The Agnipath Scheme is the only way to serve in the military. Under the scheme, soldiers serve for four years, which includes six months of training and 3.5 years of deployment. After retirement, they can apply to continue in the armed forces.
