The repolling process at violence and malpractices-hit poll booths began on Monday morning. The West Bengal State Election Commission announced that repolling will be held on Monday in 696 booths where voting for the rural elections was declared void. Visuals surfaced on the internet show people queuing up in line for the repolling.

SEC Declared Repolling

The West Bengal State Election Commission declared that a repoll will take place on Monday in all polling booths where the previous rural election voting has been deemed void. According to an official, the State Election Commission (SEC), after convening a meeting on Sunday evening, reviewed reports of electoral manipulation and incidents of violence that had impacted voting in several locations. Subsequently, the SEC issued an order based on their findings.

"After reviewing the reports received from the districts, we have decided to conduct repolling in over 690 booths in 19 districts. There will be four CAPF personnel in every booth for tomorrow's polling," an official told PTI.

Details on Void Polls

Murshidabad tops the list of districts where repolling has been scheduled with a total of 175 booths, closely followed by Malda with 112 booths.

Nadia, which was significantly affected by violence, will undergo repolling in 89 booths, while North and South 24 Parganas districts will have repolling in 46 and 36 booths respectively.
