In the Kila Mohalla of Rohtak in Haryana, an individual fell victim to cyber fraud. The cybercriminal, under the pretext of sharing a nude video on YouTube, blackmailed and extorted ₹2,21,000. A case has been registered with the cybercrime police station in this regard.

Facebook friend's WhatsApp video call turns nightmare

Amit Chawla, a resident of Kila Mohalla, received a friend request on Facebook from someone named Siya Patel, whose profile picture featured a young woman. The friend request was accepted, and thereafter, communication began through Amit's messages, leading to the sharing of his mobile number. After a few days, he received a video call on his WhatsApp number.

When Amit received this call, he saw a young woman in a nude state in the video. Upon seeing this, he immediately ended the call. Later, he received another call from a different mobile number, wherein he was informed that a video of Amit had been recorded. It was made clear that if he cherished his reputation, he needed to pay a sum of money; otherwise, the video would be uploaded on YouTube. Amit blocked that mobile number, but later, he received a call from yet another number. The caller claimed to be a YouTube manager and stated that a nude video with a young woman had been uploaded. To have the video deleted, a payment would be required.

Upon realising the scam, he lodged a complaint at the cybercrime police station. Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case under IPC sections 384 and 420.
